The Office of Learning & Talent Development (LTD) in the Office of Human Resources provides hundreds of high-quality professional development and learning events to UW-Madison's workforce of over 22,000 employees. LTDs team of passionate, forward-thinking learning and development professionals promotes a healthy, inclusive, and engaging work environment where our staff and faculty can grow and thrive. We collaborate closely with campus departments to deliver engaging learning opportunities to a diverse workforce that spans most occupation areas and backgrounds. The office, and this position, also provides UW Madison employees with career and educational counseling.
The Career Development Coordinator will provide career and educational counseling services, both remotely and in person, to UW-Madison employees through individual appointments, workshops, and presentations. This position also works closely with campus partners to develop collaborations and relationships needed to serve UW-Madison employees. Participation in numerous campus events related to this position is necessary.
Coordinates and delivers career development programming, resource materials, and/or advising to students and alumni. Educates students, alumni, and other stakeholders about career development and opportunities and maintains relationships to aid in effective career planning. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
50% Educates or advises students and recent alumni individually or in groups through various mediums about career exploration, self-assessment, skills, materials development, and career decisions
25% Develops and delivers career development programming and resource materials across various mediums to provide education to students
15% Responds to questions and provides information regarding student services, policies, procedures, and employment preparation
5% May identify and maintain a professional network of employers or other stakeholders to facilitate career exploration and employment opportunities for students
5% Participates in the campus-wide career services community, providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college/unit
Required: 1. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience (excluding internship/practicum) in counseling and career development or a related field providing services to adults 2. Knowledge of and experience with career development practices as they apply to adult populations 3. Knowledge of and experience working with diverse populations 4. Experience with developing collaborative relationships and programs, preferably in a higher education setting 5. Excellent public speaking, writing, electronic communication, and interpersonal skills 6. Experience developing and facilitating career-related workshops for adults 7. Experience using virtual platforms to provide services
Preferred: 1. Career Development Facilitator (CDF) / Facilitating Career Development (FCD) credential 2. Experience with or knowledge of employee development and human resources 3. Experience providing group counseling 4. Knowledge of for-credit and non-credit educational programs at UW Madison, UW System campuses, and other providers 5. Experience providing educational counseling to adults in a higher education setting 6. Certified to administer, or qualified to become certified, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and/or Strong Interest Inventory (SII)
