Job Summary The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) functions within a service-line educational team across the entities of HonorHealth, providing staff development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, leader and researcher. Each CNE supports the development of the bedside nurse clinician, and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based nursing practice. This occurs through the facilitation of the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education and leadership development. In addition, as a role model of professional behavior, the CNE is instrumental in creating a professional nursing climate within HonorHealth to meet the global needs of the network. The CNE advocates for nursing practice that is theory based and evidenced based, utilizing a Shared Governance model for decision-making. Travel may be required to facilitate collaboration with entities across HonorHealth. The CNE is a salaried position, reporting directly to the Network Director of Nursing Education, is not included in the unit budget and while the educator may assist bedside clinicians, is not responsible for a patient assignment.
Demonstrates knowledge of curriculum development including writing program outcomes, objectives, and competency statements and selects appropriate learning modality. Facilitates the adult learning process creating a climate which supports learning across the health system. Identifies and recruits, as appropriate, internal and external resources (nurse clinicians, physicians and other subject matter experts) for educational activities.
Conducts needs assessments using a variety of strategic tools and develops education plans according to initial and ongoing competency validations. Consults with nurse clinicians and leadership regarding individual learning needs, and develops population based education for development of nurse clinicians.
Ensures educational programs are congruent with network missions, values and goals. Responds to changes in nursing practice and develops programs to support those changes.
Incorporates evidence-based practice into all training and educational programs as well as in the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines specific to their service-line.
Supports the integration of research into practice and participates in research activities with guidance by the Network Research Director.
Supports an environment that promotes professional growth by serving as a resource for clinical policies, procedures and external agency requirements with guidance by the Network Professional Practice Director.
Evaluates learning effectiveness through perceptual feedback tools, knowledge-based testing and skills assessment and modifies educational opportunities as needed.
Provides timely and constructive feedback to learners.
Participate in development and delivery of standardized network clinical education programs (i.e. preceptor program, clinical academies, new grad residency program, new hire orientation)
Integrates ethical principles in all aspects of practice. Serves as a role model by being an active lifelong learner to promote nursing excellence and maintains appropriate educational and/or clinical competencies.
