Mental Health Specialist-Part-time

Performs duties of patient care necessary to implement individual treatment. Provides the psychological, emotional and physical care and support required by each patient. Assists in maintaining the therapeutic environment of the clinical program with regular guidance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implements therapeutic programming for assigned population.
- Provides direct patient care under supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Carries out procedures under supervision of Registered Nurse including special precautions, Handle with Care skills, seclusion and restraint correctly and safely.
- Evaluates coping needs and education needs of the families.
- Documents all pertinent clinical information on a daily basis, including all unusual incidents.
- Contributes to the organization by actively participating in shared decision making.
- The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.
- Delivers quality therapeutic group education through the independent use of provided materials. Communicates group completion in documentation and handoff to team.

- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) and < 1 year relevant industry
Position Shift:
7a-7p shift; 2 days a week (Part-time)
Department/Unit Summary:
The Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital is accepting applications for a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Psychiatric Assessment Services (PAS). This is a full-time position (36 hours per week) with a work schedule of three 12 hour shifts (7p-7a) which includes every other weekend. As an RN in our psychiatric emergency assessment services department, you will have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. Your RN skills, compassion, and willingness to help others will mean the difference in this role.
Also, in this role, you will have an opportunity to apply the nursing process to plan and manage the care of psychiatric patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning; effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to health care team; participates in finding solutions for variances from patient goals and ensures implementation of solutions; furthers professional growth by engaging in 10 hours of learning activities annually.
Finally, you will be a leader of the floor/shift and work alongside of mental health specialist and other clinical professionals to care for the patient. You will interact frequently with family members and with other healthcare professionals.
