Hofstra University’s School of Health Professions and Human Services is seeking an anticipated full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor to teach in the graduate programs in Counseling (i.e., Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling). Responsibilities will include teaching, student advisement, scholarship and service to the program, department, the School of Health Professions and Human Services, and the University. The new faculty member will collaborate with programs within the department including Rehabilitation Counseling, Creative Arts Therapy Counseling, and Marriage and Family Therapy. This position is anticipated to begin Fall 2021. Hofstra University is located on Long Island, 25 miles east of New York City in Nassau County. The University enrolls approximately 12,000 graduate and undergraduate students. The School of Health Professions and Human Services is home to three flourishing departments: Health Professions; Speech-Language Hearing Sciences; and Counseling and Mental Health Professions. Qualifications: Successful candidates for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling and Mental Health Professions will possess the following: - An earned academic doctoral degree in Counselor Education, preferably from a CACREP accredited university; candidates with a related counseling degree and full-time teaching experience in an accredited counseling program prior to July 2013 are also invited to apply.
- Current state license as a counselor, eligible for New York State Mental Health Counseling licensure within 12 months of hire.
- A minimum of 2 years full-time (or equivalent) of teaching experience, and experience in curriculum development in a Counseling program is required.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, accreditation criteria (CACREP), and knowledge of New York State education curriculum requirements, and state agency regulations.
- Ability to teach courses such as counseling skills, mental health counseling foundations, mental health consultation, and social and cultural foundations.
- Evidence of a developing schedule of scholarship and service.
- A demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, and equity.
- Experience in school counseling is highly preferred.
