Nurse Practitioner for Primary Care delivery to patients whose primary areas of responsibility will involve performance of, and documentation of health care delivery for Veterans according to Veteran's Health Administration (VHA) and Salisbury Primary Care standards. This NP will be fully qualified and certified to function in both a clinical and administrative role and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the Salisbury Veterans Affairs Health Care System. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Required Qualifications (Per Handbook 5005) Nurse Practitioner U.S. Citizenship, Birth or Naturalized (appropriate documentation required) Master's degree from an NLN or CCNE accredited Nurse Practitioner program National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner Current, full, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse State approval to practice as an NP At least one-year experience in Family Medicine and/or Internal Medicine Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 USC 7402(d), 7407(d). Preferred Qualifications U.S. Citizenship, Birth or Naturalized (appropriate documentation required) Master's degree from an NLN or CCNE accredited Nurse Practitioner program National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner Current, full, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse State approval to practice as an NP At least one-year experience in Family Medicine and/or Internal Medicine Required Level of Education Nurse Practitioner MSN with Adult, Family NP or DNP Preferred Certification(s) BLS Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:· Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.· Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Physical Requirements: The position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring Veterans and objects may be required. May be required to don protective equipment in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. Responsible for the reprocessing of reusable medical equipment, according to the medical center policies. Required to use available safe patient handling lifting devices in all clinical areas. May also be exposed to Veterans who are combative, secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. This individual is delegated the authority and responsibility in his/her area of expertise to assume major clinical, consultative, educational, research, and administrative duties and assignments related to Veteran care. Functions of Scope Assigned Clinical:\n1. Primary focus of practice is the independent clinical evaluation of Veterans to include panel management, and/or panel coverage for providers out on leave, and/or GAP coverage for Veterans with acute or chronic complaints. Clinical evaluation will include evaluation and management of acute and chronic conditions, prevention, and patient self-management. Comprehensive primary care will be provided to male and female Veterans.\n2. Care may be provided in many modalities, from direct face to face care, virtual care (including telephonic, video, secured messaging and others)\n3. Promotes, directs, evaluates and is responsible for referral to management of clinical concerns that are found during these evaluations.\n4. Functions as a member of a Patient Aligned Care Team, collaborating with clinical and administrative support to provide timely, quality, coordinated care for Veterans.\n5. Utilizes and promotes approved standards of care, procedures, methods and techniques, safety precautions and protocols in their application to this population in all settings.\n6. Collaborates with other health care resources to ensure continuity of care.\n7. Keeps abreast of latest trends, skills, procedures, and protocols relevant in the area of specialty and serves as a resource person for the medical center staff.\n8. May provide coverage in primary care clinics.\n9. May be asked to see same day or 'urgent' patients if needed. These may or may not be on the provider's 'panel' of patients.\n10. Participates in population health as assigned.\n11. Maintaining VA training requirements, timely completion of documentation and upkeep of credentials required for privileging and re-privileging.\n12. Adheres to employee health requirements. Participate in routine medical record reviews. Supervisory Controls:\nThe incumbent is directly responsible to the Clinic Medical Director. In the clinic, assignments evolve from the flow of work and the nurse practitioner provides care without detailed instructions. The nurse practitioner will work collaboratively and under the direction of clinicians and administrative leadership of the Ambulatory Care Service. Administrative assignments may be assigned by supervisor or self-generated with input from supervisor. Work is reviewed for timely delivery of health services and high-quality exams consistent with standardized practices.
