Job Summary
The Recreational Therapy Supervisor is responsible for the planning, supervision and implementation of recreational programs for the individuals affected by alcoholism/chemical dependency. The Recreational Therapy Supervisor builds a sense of community and warm social atmosphere for the participants, evaluates their needs, and develops group and individual programming to meet those needs.
Job Duties
- Plans, supervises and implements relevant recreational programs to meet the needs of the participants, per the treatment plans developed by the Interdisciplinary Team.
- Organizes and directs group activities which includes the ropes course and climbing wall, sports activities, team initiatives, exercise program, arts and crafts, music appreciation, etc.
- Seeks input from the participants on programming they enjoy most as well as additional ideas the Recreation Therapy staff would like to pursue.
- The planning of activities shall reflect professional understanding of the needs and abilities of the Participants.
- Activities, while reflecting awareness of impairment, shall emphasize the individual Participant's strengths and abilities so they can contribute to Participant feelings of accomplishment.
- Provides for a balance of purposeful activities to meet the Participant's interrelated needs and interests, including social, intellectual, cultural, emotional, physical and spiritual.
- Designs activities in a holistic manner to promote personal growth and enhance the self-image or to improve or maintain the functioning level of Participants, or both.
- Develops and coordinates therapeutic recreation services into patient treatment plans in conjunction with the Primary Counselors.
- Provides orientation, training and supervision of Recreation Therapists, student interns, music therapist, and Recreation Therapy programming consultants.
- Participates in the hiring process, disciplinary process, annual performance appraisals, PTO requests, and payroll approval Develops, reviews, and updates recreational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with State and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization laws and standards.
- Oversees Quality Improvement activities.
- Interviews, trains and supports Recreation Therapy staff, student interns, and recreation therapy programming consultants.
- Ensures completion of documentation of services, reviewing electronic documentation for continuity and completeness.
- Supervises the exercise program and fitness center.
- Orders and maintains inventory of all recreation equipment and supplies.
- Inspects all equipment and facilities regularly to ensure safety including ropes course and fitness center equipment.
- Completes maintenance orders as necessary.
- Schedule yearly ropes course inspections and fitness center equipment inspections.
- Oversee the completion of Incident reports.

Position Details
* This position will oversee the Recreational Therapy for all LIFE Geisinger centers. Travel to all centers is required.
