The Compensation and Pension Examiner provides disability, pension and/or registry examinations of Veterans according to VHA, VBA, and OMA standards. This Clinical Provider will be fully qualified and certified to function this role and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the Salisbury Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Required Qualifications (Per Handbook 5005) Nurse Practitioner U.S. Citizenship, Birth or Naturalized (appropriate documentation required) Master's degree from an NLN or CCNE accredited Nurse Practitioner program National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner Current, full, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse State approval to practice as an NP At least one-year experience in Family Medicine and/or Internal Medicine Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 USC 7402(d), 7407(d). Preferred Qualifications U.S. Citizenship, Birth or Naturalized (appropriate documentation required) Master's degree from an NLN or CCNE accredited Nurse Practitioner program National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner Current, full, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse State approval to practice as an NP At least one-year experience in Family Medicine and/or Internal Medicine Working knowledge of Compensation and Pension practices. Required Level of Education Nurse Practitioner MSN with Adult, Family NP or DNP Preferred Certification(s) BLS Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:· Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.· Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Physical Requirements: The position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring Veterans and objects may be required. May be required to don protective equipment in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. Responsible for the reprocessing of reusable medical equipment, according to the medical center policies. Required to use available safe patient handling lifting devices in all clinical areas. May also be exposed to Veterans who are combative, secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. This individual is delegated the authority and responsibility in his/her area of expertise to assume major clinical, consultative, educational, research, and administrative duties and assignments related to the examination of claimants filing compensation and pension claims. Functions of Scope Assigned Clinical:\n1. Primary focus of practice is the independent clinical evaluation of veterans for disability, pension, environmental hazard and/or registry examinations\n2. Examinations are documented using standardized formats including CAPRI, and DBQs\n3. Utilizes and promotes approved standards of examination, procedures, methods and techniques, safety precautions and protocols in their application to this population in all settings.\n4. Collaborates with other health care resources to fully evaluate requested conditions sufficient for purposes, of disability rating, determination of eligibility for pension or other benefits and registry evaluations\n5. Keeps abreast of latest trends, skills, procedures, and protocols relevant in the area of specialty and serves as a resource person for the medical center staff. Administrative:\n1. Participates in Quality Improvement activities\n2. Participates and attends medical center committees as assigned by the Compensation and Pension Clinical Director.
