Incumbent is a qualified registered Radiology Technologist cross trained in highly complex applications/modalities which requires knowledge and proficiency to maintain optimal patient care for the Cardiac Catheterization Procedure and Electrophysiology Suites as well as the total scope of the Department of cardiology. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Citizenship of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.) Education. There are no specific educational requirements for this occupation. Education may be substituted for experience only at the GS-4 and GS-5 levels. See the grade requirements part of this standard for information regarding educational substitutions. Licensure or Certification. Licensure or Certification is not required for this occupation; however, it is strongly desirable at GS-6 or above as evidence of possession of the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities. For certain functional areas at the higher levels or supervisory assignments, specific certifications appropriate to the specialty are indicated in this standard under "Titles and Certification/Registrations". English Language Proficiency. Medical Instrument Technicians must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a, this part For all specialties identified in this standard, Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications are desirable. Training which does not result in official certification does not meet this definition. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the criteria discussed in the applicable headings, or that defined in the appendices, must be met when determining the grade of candidates. Preferred Experience: Qualified Registered Radiology Technologist, Supervisory experience strongly preferred. Required Experience: Must have Cardiology/Radiology/Interventional radiology experience (doesn't have to have all just experience in one). Physical Requirements: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019 ["Duties include but not limited to:\nTechnical supervisor of Cardiac Cath/Electrophysiology lab, Echo Department, EKG Department, Cardiac Stress Lab and Holter/Event Monitor technicians for optimal patient care. Incumbent is responsible for the technical personnel which includes position development, staff training and tracking. The supervisory technologist is responsible for the technical personnel which includes Cath lab, Echo, EKG and Stress lab. Coordinates with representatives of other services and /or facilities concerning matters of work accomplishments, priorities and procedures. Provides monthly evaluation of workload statistics. Works with management team and employees to determine future goals and formulate plans to attain these goals. Works with management team and employees to update and maintain policies. Establishes performance standards for technologists. Acts as a liaison between physicians, nurses, technologists, clerks, patients and families to ensure exceptional patients and families to ensure exceptional patient care. Reviews formal grievances with the Program Leader and Administrative Officer to resolve issues. Assists cardiologists with complex procedures equipment /instrumentation used in all types of percutaneous diagnostic/interventional coronary and peripheral vascular procedures including, but not limited to angioplasty, valvuloplasty, stents, atherectomy, pericardiocentesis, temporary pacemakers, intravascular ultrasound, Ilbilla, P2Y12, Aspirin Assay's, pacemaker overdrive,\nIABP insertions, and other procedures implemented in the invasive cardiovascular catheterization laboratories regarding protocols/innovations for procedures. Collaborates and supervises a limited function laboratory for blood gas evaluation calculations. This lab is under direction of the College of American Pathologists utilizing the College of American Pathologists Quality Control survey necessary for JCAHO/VA accreditation. Maintain Quality Assurance, Quality Controls for CAP Controls, two different Blood Gas Analyzers, patient blood gas analysis, Performs proficiency testing for CAP to maintain Hospital accreditation. Directs the operation of state-of-the-art radiographic imaging equipment, hemodynamic recorders and data storage systems. Establishes QA/QC monitors for CQls (Continuous Quality Improvement) Used in the Cardiac Cath Labs such as: all x-ray equipment, C-armtable, monitors, Fluoro-Digital-Control room/Sensis, Artis, ACom & Sensis Servers and Leonardo 3D vessel reconstruction. Assures compliance with patient procedure requirements with the Director of Cardiac Cath Lab/Chief of Cardiology and nursing staff. Adheres to all of the ACC, CART-CL and JCAHO procedure guidelines. Assists in the development of new policies and procedures for the cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology laboratory. Reviews daily patient schedule with charge nurse for assessment and patient care. Participate in direct patient assessment to include laboratory data review, code status, medications, allergies, research study criteria. Evaluates specifications and features of new products, performing product comparisons, feasibility and cost benefit analyses and performance and compatibility testing. Make recommendations for future implementation to management. Directs subordinates in such a way to accomplish the completion of a demanding workload in a smooth and timely manner. The supervisory function encompasses wide latitude of duties and responsibilities such as: Plan work scheduled/assignments and sequence of operations on a\ndaily/weekly basis, to include projects and to assure an even flow and distribution of work; the expeditious handling of priority cases and the meeting of deadlines. Works with the employee/union and designated union representatives in order to resolve allegations of discrimination by meeting with employee, counselor and /or union official; and providing written and/or verbal information as requested. Conduct monthly staff meetings with technical staff and Director of Cardiology to discuss advanced equipment, new product lines, and staff related problems.
