NURSE EXTERN PEDS PICU

Please only apply to One Nursing Unit you are most interested in working and not to all current Extern postings.  This position requires the ability to work 6 and 12 hrs shifts; variable hours.

You bring your body, mind, heart and spirit to your work as a Nurse Extern in our fast paced Peds PICU Unit.

You are a student in good standing in an accredited school of nursing program having completed of a course in the fundamentals of nursing and pharmacology courses.

Us

Our 22-bed pediatric unit is staffed by trained and certified pediatric nurses, doctors, specialists and therapists.  In collaboration with Zoo Montana and San Diego Zoo, each room on the pediatric floor features a dedicated zoo channel, delivering educational and entertaining material to children and their families and providing a welcome distraction from tests and treatments.

Your day

As a Nurse Extern on the Peds PICU, youâ™ll never know what to expect, but you will know how to:

• Respond to patient care needs by answering call lights, assisting patients with hygiene care and nourishment, obtaining vital signs, a communicating constructively, effectively and timely with members of the care team


• PIV insertion, maintenance and removal


• Venipuncture


• Foley Catheter insertion, care and removal


• Perform safe wound care


• Works under the direction of a RN

Your experience

We hire people, not resumes. But we also expect excellence, which is why we require:

• High School diploma, or the equivalent, required


• Current Montana CNA Registration, required


• A student in good standing in an accredited School of Nursing program


• Completion of fundamentals of nursing and a pharmacology course, required


• Completion of all clinical coursework with the exception of final/capstone course.


• BLS certification within 60 days of hire, required
