Inova L.J. Murphy Children's Hospital (ICH) is a 226-bed, full-service children's hospital devoted to the healthcare of infants, children, and adolescents in the Northern Virginia area. It is home to the Inova Children's Hospital's Pediatric Residency Program and Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship Program which combines the academic rigor of a university-based hospital, the complexities of subspecialty pediatrics and the family atmosphere of a community program. ICH provides state-of-the-art technology, research and teaching innovations, and a dedicated multidisciplinary team approach to patient care. As Northern Virginia's only pediatric tertiary care center, the Inova Children's Hospital provides the highest level of care for pediatric patients, in a technologically advanced, yet child-friendly environment. With an average of 12,000 deliveries a year, the pediatric hospitalist group provides care to the majority of these newborns within the well newborn nursery unit which ranges from routine well to higher risk newborns.

Our pediatric hospitalist program seeks Nurse Practitioners ready to join a dynamic team of dedicated physicians and APPs in their endeavor to provide expert care of newborns within the well newborn nursery unit. Our Pediatric hospitalists and APPs provide daytime in-house coverage of the well newborn nursery unit and will share overnight home call responsibilities. We seek NPs who have a strong interest in newborn medicine, preferably with general pediatric and/or newborn experience given the high volume and relatively high complexity of our newborn population at ICH. ICH's Level IV NICU covers deliveries therefore no delivery attendance is required. Our group goes the extra mile to ensure a positive experience for our babies and parents. The pediatric hospitalists educate over 150 medical students from two different schools in our region and are the Northern Virginia campus for the UVA School of Medicine. Our APPs work alongside the Pediatric and Family Medicine Residents and will be involved with educating our various learners as the opportunity arises.

Located on the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in beautiful Northern Virginia, about ten miles outside of Washington, DC, Inova Children's Hospital serves one of the country's most rapidly growing and desirable areas. Our diverse patient population brings with it a similarly diverse set of presentations and diagnoses.

The qualified applicant can:

-Communicate and coordinate care for newborn patients within the well newborn nursery unit

-Consult various pediatric subspecialists as needed

-Escalate care to NICU providers for unit transfer if needed

-Liaise with case managers, nurses, lactation consultants and other healthcare staff to ensure the highest quality of care

-Encourage and participate in an outstanding patient experience

-Actively participate in the education of medical students and residents during their shifts

-Be willing to work daytime shifts including one weekend per month with periodic home overnight call coverage to answer RN questions from the well newborn unit
