At Father Joe’s Villages (FJV) our mission is to prevent end homelessness one life at a time. FJV has been serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness in San Diego, CA for over 70 years.  We do this work through the spirit of our CREED; with Compassion, Respect, Empathy, Empowerment and Dignity.

The Village Health Center (VHC) at Father Joe’s Villages is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and Healthcare for the Homeless grantee embedded within a larger social service agency (Father Joe’s Villages). Our mission at the VHC is to provide the highest quality healthcare to our homeless and at-risk neighbors and support our community in ending homelessness one life at a time. Clinicians working within the VHC are better equipped to provide underserved patients with critical healthcare services and other resources that address social determinants of health.

The VHC provides Nurse Triage, Primary Care, Dental, Psychiatry, Behavioral Health, Substance Use Disorder treatment, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), Street Health (also known as street medicine), and Recuperative Care Services. We also have teams that complete critical tasks that keep the health center up and running, focusing on Outreach, Scheduling, Registration, Referrals, Health Insurance Enrollment, Billing, Medical Records, and more. Services are provided Monday through Friday during business hours (8:30am – 5pm) with extended hours on Thursdays (5:45-9pm). 

The Medical Director oversees Primary Care, Psychiatry, Dental and Behavioral Health service provision and participates in strategic planning, program development, and day-to-day clinical operations. The Medical Director plays a critical role in program evaluation and continuous quality improvement to assure high quality health services are rendered fitting with the quadruple aim. As a clinician leader, the Medical Director will uphold a schedule comprised of both clinic (patient-facing) and administrative time. Direct reports include Primary/Psychiatry Clinicians and the Dental and Behavioral Health Directors. The Medical Director will report to the Chief Medical Officer, who is responsible for all aspects of the clinic. The Medical Director is a counterpart to the Clinic Director (who provides oversight to the health center’s administrative functions, including administrative staff, MA/RN team, budgets, and grant management). Clinical experience is required and clinical leadership experience is strongly preferred.
