Position SummaryThe Medication Access Specialist position resides in the Pharmacy Department, reporting to the Pharmacy Business Manager or Pharmacy Business Analyst. This position is responsible for assisting patients in identifying and navigating complex assistance programs (manufacturer, foundations, grants, and 340B Assist).
The Med Access Specialist works closely with an interdisciplinary team of Pharmacy staff, Patient Financial Advocates, the Pharmacy Authorization Team, Revenue Cycle, Case Management, clinic staff and providers. Daily tasks include the coordination of referrals, conducting patient insurance and financial reviews, facilitating the coordination of shipping and timely receipt of medications, and responding to complex questions from third party payers and SLHS personnel regarding medication-related issues and reimbursement.
Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a professional presentation are imperative along with an ability to be innovative and creative. To be effective, this position must be able to establish collaborative working relationships.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience:
- Three (3) years' experience preferred
- Medication reimbursement and healthcare insurance prior authorization experience preferred
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Idaho Pharmacy Technician License required
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred
