Responsibilities
Essential Function/Responsibilities:
Follows standards of clinical procedures/protocols, ventilator and airway management
Meets all essential functions outlined in Respiratory Care Practitioner job description
Aids in identifying clinical problems, formulates resolutions and develops a mechanism for ensuring its effectiveness
Possesses advanced clinical skills
Researches and develops respiratory driven protocols based on best practices
Establishes and maintains effective communication
Establishes collaborative relationships with employees to ensure issues are identified, evaluated and resolved as a team
Interprets hospital and department policies and procedures as they relate to Respiratory Therapy
Participates in report and patient care rounds, and provides stimulus for points of discussion
Acts as a liaison to the manager of designated specialty area
Coordinates bi-monthly meeting with manager
Participates in performance improvement
Develops unit specific initiatives based on PDCA methodology
Communicates department balanced scorecard to team members and its importance
Responsible for performance and documentation of quality control within specialty co-oximetry area as per CLIA/CAP regulations
Continually re-assesses services of respiratory care to achieve high quality and cost-effective health care
Demonstrates effective leadership skills
Performs charge responsibilities
Chairs specialty area team meetings on a regular basis in conjunction with Coordinator/Assistant Manager
Exemplifies all performance standards through daily actions
Fosters a team approach, sets goals with practitioners and provides assistance in attaining them
Monitors effectiveness of care, employee performance and provides peer feedback as a resource for performance management
Monitors specialty equipment and unit schedule; makes recommendations as needed
Performs duties and functions as assigned
Contributes to continued education
Revises orientation sheets, participates in orientation of new employees and ongoing education of all staff including nursing
Develops, revises and implements policies and procedures along with leadership
Develops clinical competencies in conjunction with coordinator
Provides new incentives for learning on a continuing basis
Evaluates new equipment, information, and research studies for clinical trial
Ensures accurate and timely documentation via the Respiratory lnformation System of order history, results of therapy and patient charges
Ensures timely documentation of Medication Administration Record and Interdisciplinary Form
Oversees complete, thorough documentation of unit specific orientation packets including daily and final summary sheets prior to submission to coordinator
Maintains a thorough knowledge and proper usage of all forms, flowcharts, logbooks
Utilizes standard and specific precautions as identified by lnfection Control Department
Modifies equipment according to manufacturer's specifications to meet a patient's needs
Adheres to and educates team members on patient safety goals outlined in AHS policies
Seeks assistance and direction from appropriate resources prior to implementing unfamiliar procedures
Adheres to Atlantic Health Systems Corporate Compliance Plan and to rules and regulations of other regulating authorities
Continuously strives to improve customer satisfaction by going above what is expected
IOO% compliance of all competencies by deadline
Demonstrates fairness and consistency with employees
Seeks professional growth through continuing education and goal achievement, i.e. specialty credentials
Adheres to dress code and wears hospital identification at all times
Committee attendance/participation
Attends 90% of lead practitioner meetings
Provides in-service education at monthly staff meetings
Supports Practice Council
Attends unit specific monthly interdisciplinary meetings on a regular basis
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED required
Associate of Science degree from an accredited respiratory therapist program required
Bachelor's Degree, highly preferred
Minimum Experience:
1-2 years of RT experience preferred
Critical care experience, highly preferred.
Current or past experience with EPIC charting, highly preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC), required.
Active license for Respiratory Therapy in New Jersey, required.
Advanced and Basic Life Support certification, required.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bilingual preferred
Ability to use email and wireless communication devices efficiently
Must be able to work in a clinical setting as necessary - this includes sitting, standing, walking, carrying necessary inventory at varying intervals
