GENERAL SUMMARY: Evaluates and treats patients with physical, emotional, cognitive, psychosocial, and/or limitations with activities of daily living as medically prescribed. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: •Assesses patient ability to safely and effectively perform independent activities of daily living skills •Documents and charges accurately, completely, and timely using measurable and objective terminology, following standards of practice, insurance guidelines and department/hospital policies and procedures •Designs and implements a treatment plan of care utilizing practice standards and recommended techniques and modalities, insurance guidelines, and patient's needs. Monitors patient's response and progress to treatment and modifies treatment plans appropriate •Provides discharge planning assistance and information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and follow up services •Communicates appropriately and effectively with patients, family and healthcare professionals within and across care settings and communities •Oversees the care provided by certified occupational therapy assistants and rehabilitation therapy aide, according to established regulations and practice standards •Meets productivity standard as defined by department •Attends department meetings and education as required •Practices principles of professional development and performance improvements by maintaining clinical knowledge, using best and or evidence-based practices, and serving as a Clinical instructor •Educates patients, family members, and caregivers about identified needs •May assist as required to market occupational therapy program in the hospital and community •Willingly adjust and adapt to changes in patient census by altering working hours to assist in other centers, programs as needed, approved and observed by manager •Performs other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE STRONGLY PREFERRED: •Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office •Entry level competency of occupational therapy practice, theory, principles, and applications as defined in competency/department policies •Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English
