The Division of Education at Mississippi State University (MSU) Meridian Campus is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor in the Counseling Program to join our growing team. This non-tenure track position is set to begin in Fall 2026, and offers a unique opportunity to be a key part of a CACREP-accredited program committed to developing compassionate, well-trained counselors who will positively impact both school and clinical settings.
Position Overview: Mississippi State University - Meridian Campus invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor position within the Counseling Program in the Division of Education. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate counseling courses, supervise practicum and internship experiences, deliver services in the mental and behavioral health clinic, and contribute to the program’s outreach efforts. Faculty in the Counseling Program work closely with area schools, community colleges, and clinical settings to ensure students gain hands-on experience and meet accreditation standards.
This position offers a collaborative environment with opportunities for faculty to contribute to a growing program focused on Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling, with an exciting new certificate offering in addictions counseling. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of counseling theory and practice, and a commitment to fostering inclusion within both education and mental health services.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach graduate-level counseling courses, including foundational counseling courses and specialized areas such as clinical mental health counseling and addictions counseling.
Supervise practicum and internship experiences for graduate students, ensuring practical, real-world learning experiences that prepare students for their counseling careers.
Deliver counseling services in the clinic setting, contributing to the practical training of students while serving the community.
Contribute to the ongoing development and continuous improvement of the counseling curriculum to align with CACREP standards and accreditation requirements.
Advise and mentor students on academic progression, professional development, and career goals.
Participate in service and outreach initiatives to support the mission and goals of MSU - Meridian and the Division of Education.

Minimum Requirements include the following:
Doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program with an emphasis or focus in Clinical Mental Health or School Counseling
Demonstration of excellence in teaching, and/or service (Associate Teaching Professor), or demonstration of potential for excellence in these areas (Assistant Teaching Professor)
ABD's will be considered if the degree will be completed by hiring date.
Level of appointment is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Preferred Qualifications include the following:
Eligibility for licensure as a LPC in Mississippi or School Counselor in Mississippi
Experience with CACREP accreditation
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the counseling field
