Job Description
Under administrative direction of the Assistant Director, Employee Assistance Program, provides professional short-term counseling services to faculty and staff and their spouses and dependents with personal, family, career/work-related, and behavioral health problems.
Salary Range
$48,000 - $58,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties
- Provides the core services for an internal EAP in a large urban University.
- Performs assessment and evaluation, information and referral and crisis intervention services to clients on a regular basis.
- Provides individual, couples, and group EAP counseling services in a time-limited service delivery model.
- Provides consultation and training to supervisors, managers and administrators.
- Monitors progress of clients and provides feedback to both clients and administrators as needed while maintaining client's confidentiality.
- Works closely with other employee campus services including the Office of Human Resources, ASU Police, and University Ombudspersons.
- Coordinates and provides education to campus organizations and employee constituencies.
- Coordinates insurance coverage with eligibility of participants and performs case management when appropriate.
- Participates on relevant committees, task forces and work groups to provide the EAP perspective.
- Develops and maintains close working relationships with community resources, health care practitioners, and university/employee health care providers.
- Provides services to employees on both Tempe and Downtown campuses.
- Serves as liaison with department and other campus offices and programs.
- Maintains professional credentials and development.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Counseling or Social Work; AND a minimum of one (1) year of clinically supervised behavioral health counseling experience, case management, crisis counseling; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Current State of Arizona License in good standing to practice psychotherapy by the Arizona Board of Health Examiners (AZBBHE).
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of the core services of an internal employee assistance program in higher education.
- Evidence of a Master’s degree and current Independent license (or eligible) with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners in Social Work, Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy AND, 1 year of experience in crisis counseling, case management, and training.
- Experience in higher education and/or providing Employee Assistance services in large organizations.
- Knowledge of short-term counseling procedures, including assessment and evaluation, information and referral, and crisis intervention.
- Knowledge of consultation and organizational development procedures and practice.
- Experience in training and outreach.
- Skill in coordinating health care providers and case management.
- Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Experience in using problem solving skills
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
- Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
- Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions
- Required to travel to and between campus locations while providing services to employees on both Tempe and Downtown campuses.
- Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals
- Receives regular review of completed work assignments for adherence to established goals and objectives.
